According to the 9th century Anglo-Saxon Chronicle retelling,\u00a0\u00c6lle arrived with three ships at Cymenshore in 477. He and his three sons (e.g., Cymen, Wlencing, Cissa) killed or drove the Welsh inhabitants from their homes. Experts doubt this happened as written, but very little is known about the region before the arrival of Wilfrith in 691.<\/p>\n<p>When the Saxons arrived in Sussex during the 5th century, they reintroduced pagan practices to the post-Roman region.
